Excuses for an Unfinished Quilt

Okay…I confess. My “Lovely Year of Finishes” is already off to a bad start!

January first I started a new quilt (New Year, New Quilt) and then I found out about the 2013 finishes challenge. Perfect, I thought. This quilt was off to a great start and I can definitely finish it this month. Especially with a deadline. I hate missing deadlines! Alas, my plan has been knocked off course. 😦

Lest you think I’m not trying, here’s my list of excuses (and the excuses for the excuses!):

I work full time (but that’s a given and really shouldn’t be used, but
I really want sympathy and it’s been my excuse for years! LOL)

I had out of state family visiting last weekend and we had so much fun, just no quilting. (Okay, I could have stayed up in the wee hours, but remember my preferring sewing spot is one end of the dining room table and it had to be cleaned up for company!)

I was blessed with the nasty head cold my dear hubby shared
and my brain has been muddled for a week now. (Be nice if you feel
the need to comment on this one 😉 — I’m just praying it wasn’t
shared with the visiting family!)

My sewing machine needle broke! (Yes, I know you’re not supposed to run over the pins! Does it really matter this happened four days before
the company arrived? Or that I have a package of new needles sitting
beside my machine? You know how long and strenuous the changing of
the needle is! ;-))

End of excuses! So here it is, January 27th and I don’t have a project finished. Even with half the blocks done for the quilt, I won’t make the deadline to finish it.

But I have hope! While cleaning up the quilting corner in the dining room, I discovered the top of a table runner done. The project was interrupted to finish Christmas quilts. It only needs the back, binding and quilting to be finished and that counts. Plus, I have FOUR and a half days left in the month!

Now if I just change that needle……..
Happy Quilting
